Is homosexuality a sin?
Yes. The only part of the Bible in which God explicitly blesses sexual
activity is Genesis 2:24. "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his
mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." These
are the parameters of His blessing; all conscious, willful sexual activity that
falls short of these is sin.
Some would object, Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. He did not
need to: He reaffirmed Genesis 2:24 (see Matthew 19:5 and Mark 10:7-8). Jesus is
God; whatever was said by the Father in the Old Testament and throughout the
Bible expresses His wisdom also.
Some would ask, is it a sin to feel homosexual desires? No. There is a
difference between temptation and sin. Jesus was tempted, yet was without sin.
(Hebrews 4:15) God does not count it sin when we are tempted; we sin when we
choose to pursue the temptation to fantasize sexually, engage in illicit sexual
activities, etc.
Nor is homosexuality the "worst sin." Jesus states, "And thou,
Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shall be brought down to hell: for if
the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would
have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more
tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee."
(Matthew 11:23-24) Those who engage in homosexual sins still have the
opportunity to repent and receive the forgiveness of Jesus Christ at the cross.
For those who die having rejected the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, their sin
remains.
